Maria Engberg

Maria Engberg is Assistant Professor at Malmö University, Department of Media Technology and Product Development, and an Affiliate Researcher at the Augmented Environments Lab at Georgia Institute of Technology (US).

Her research interests include digital aesthetics, locative media and media studies. She was one of the project members of ELMCIP, an international network and knowledge database for electronic literature, and is currently a project member of two large scale research projects: City Fables. Artistic and design research (2013-2016) and Living Archives:  Enhancing the role of the public archive by performing memory, open data access, and participatory design (2013-2017). She is the author of several articles on digital aesthetics, literature, and locative media, including augmented and mixed reality, and is writing a book on locative media aesthetic practices. She combines her theoretical work with digital media practice. She designs mobile media experiences for augmented and mixed reality for cultural heritage and informal learning experiences. With Jay David Bolter, under the name Far&Near, she creates augmented reality mobile media narratives.
